For example, the Open Rights Group (of which, last time I looked, I was Patron, but I don't have to do anything except be on the letterhead and possibly make the cucumber sandwiches) posted http://www.openrightsgroup.org/2008/05/08/bbc-removes-doctor-who-fans-knitting-patterns-from-the-web/ -- the story of a fan who was told by the BBC to take down the Dr Who knitting patterns from her website. Interestingly, the Head of Communications at the BBC left a message on the ORG blog, and amplified it on the BBC news site, pointing out that their problem was not with the creator but with the people who were taking her designs and selling them on eBay. One commenter said, My own opinion is that the BBC would be correct to target Ebay sellers and anyone attempting to make a profit from their intellectual property, as is their right. Unfortunately rather than do this actively, they have chosen the easy option of attacking a person whose only ‘crime’ is she has the imagination and flare to design knitted patterns and make them available not for profit, based on Dr Who characters...Which was the last thing I read before reading this Boing-Boing article, this Beat coverage, and this follow-up blog posting from the person who was running the ebay auction: Warner Brothers lawyers closed down a children's cancer charity eBay auction because it was selling original Superman drawings... And mostly, I'm just glad that I'm not a corporate trademark lawyer. (Also, I think -- and have thought for about 17 years, ever since the Comic Relief Comic problems -- that Warner Corporate needs to change its policies with regards to DC Comics and charities and allow DC Comics as much latitude as, say, Marvel. But it hasn't happened yet.)

Rambley entry
I am basically caught up at work. Tomorrow will just finish up the Gala paperwork as much as I can. Still have outstanding ticket invoices. But we can't deal with that at the moment.
Long weekend is looming. The kids are staying in town. So it'll be busy, and I will be glad when school is back in session.
No word yet on when the fence will get done. SaskEnergy has to flag potential gas lines yet. No SaskTel lines or sewage/water lines to worry about.
Got so many bead designs in my head, and crochet ideas and sewing ideas. I think I may pop if I don't do some of them this weekend.
Gonna dye Jake's hair this weekend as well. Probably orange, but we'll see. Current Mood: calm

24 Hours or so away..
I guess i'm like a river..ever changing, moving at a medium pace... Looks like I'm getting off work tomorrow early, say aboot 2:00pm or so, and I hope to make it on time for the evening bus in prince albert to saskatoon, moment I arrive I'll be buying my return ticket so I know that I have it at the ready.
If I miss the bus (while still in pa) or if some thing happens that cause me to miss said bus, like a flat tire or getting lost along the way, i'll be staying at me aunties house for the night then first thing in the morning i'll take the 9:30am bus from PA to saskatoon and i think arrive around noon or so. Calling people to see who's place I'll be staying at...i'm hoping at Robins or Cristos but still working out the details. if all else fails I can always stay at a hotel a night or two... Will be bringing Charlene (x-box 360) with me. Not sure I can trust it being left behind. With some luck and such I hope this weekend goes off with out a hitch. Money might be a bit tight. 100 for bill, about 100-120 for bus tickets, 70-140 for hotel (maybe) and of course moms gift 200 or there about that is 560 from i'm hoping a 700-800 cheque...but we will see tomorrow... do I come back monday or sunday..if i work monday i'll be earning time and a half...

Five years.
Five years ago Shawn and I had our first date, which consisted of dinner at Cedars and then a bunch of driving around to parks, until I found the type of breeze I was looking for at Gasworks. (I think we went to Golden Gardens, then Matthews Beach, then Magnusen first.)
I still like him, and he still likes me.

If you have a Debian or Ubuntu system, update *now* and delete all SSH and SSL certificates and keys you generated before the update. Generate new ones, unless you installed openssh TODAY.
For Ubuntu, this affects 7.04+. 6.06 is safe. For Debian, fcuked if I know. Debian is obsolete, pretty much by definition. I half-expect anyone running Ubuntu will already be in on the loop with this. If this was a Windows hole, you wouldn't even be hearing about it until August, when MS finally rolled out the fix.

I am not dead, part two. Finally, an update.
I am doing well. I am still a stripper. I live in Virginia, but I want to move either to Florida or to California. I'm not unhappy! I live with some christian college kids who do not mind my satanist ways. :)
I'm 24 now. My daughter is 5. I recently took out the vast majority of my six facial piercings during a drunken rage. My hair is blue. I travel all the time. My life is much more exciting than it was when I left, and I am a lot happier. I stick up for myself now. I'm also in shape. I've gained like 20 lbs. My boobs are fantastic, haha. I got some tattoos. My interest is now in a black metal bassist, who unlike the usual guy I go for, is a really nice guy.
And here's how my daughter and I look now.
